Barn Find Triumph Tiger Cub

Every so often the phone rings or an email comes in asking me to sell a bike for an owner who needs to raise cash. Sometimes its the family of the late bike owner ready to settle an estate or raise funds for other purposes. So it was with this machine. The son contacted me to sell his late fathers 1938 Triumph Speed Twin, a first year version of the classic Edward Turner parallel twin design. Emails were exchanged, pictures taken and things set in motion to find a buyer. I found one for the 1938 quickly as these are highly sought after historically signifiicant machines.

Oh, he also mentioned he had an old "Triumph dirt bike". The dirt bike turned out to be a 1963 Triumph Tiger Cub SC.

I immediately dispatched a trusted friend who knows his British bikes and lives in the same town where the bikes were located to check it out. Turns out, the little Triumph Tiger Club that had been laid up under a tarp in the barn for the last 15 years untouched. Miraculously, it was largely original piece with few only a few items missing, like the footpegs. The paint, including the fenders had not a scratch, the glass on the lights and speedo all perfect too. Quite a find. We got it loaded in the ideal old bike truck, a 1962 Ford Econoline pickup.

We'll probably get it cleaned up and running and make her available at the 10th Annual Chadds Ford Classic Motorcycle Auction on April 15, 2011. You can check out the auction at www.myclassicmotorcycle.com
